How exciting was Tate Modern? Eeeek! Ok if you follow me already, you know so skip this part. But if you don’t (do it!) it was amazing, incredible, moving, and lots of fun! I met lots of new people who have been asking questions, old and new, and I also had the pleasure to meet Ian Berry in person. Yes, yes!
Ian (previously known as Denimu) is a British born artist based in Poplar (East London) who creates artwork solely from denim. Berry re-uses jeans, jackets, and other denim clothing to create portraits, landscapes and other unique works. In 2013, Berry was named as one of Art Business News's ‘30 under 30’ influential artists in the world. I met him thanks to my curatorial experience at SKT Spaces and after 5 years of stalking - from my side of course - and Sicilian tips (long story and not only mine to tell) he decided to come and meet me at Tate Modern. I’m so grateful.
Since I met him, I’m truly inspired by the story he told me and by the power of a good story. I recently had a meeting with Esther - a new addition to the team! - about this and she me told to work on my #storytelling. She basically said I’m boring (not true! 😝) and that I need to find a hook to engage with people, to create conversations. It seems easy but it’s actually not! I’ve been told all my life that I’m sharing too much and I’m long winded when speaking: because of this I created a resembling of a so-called better self who is more logic and less emotional. A better self who doesn’t speak around things anymore but goes straight to the point, no embellishment. Did I lost it? I’m emphatic, rambling and extremely emotional but I’m not sure you can see it on the other side of the screen.
I’m on a mission to discover what’s my hook. I want to CONNECT!
While working on it, I also finished my website an the shop is finally on! A few painting have now sold, but please do let me know if you'd like to see a list of available works or discuss commissioning your own artwork. As one of my newsletter subscribers you will be offered a discounted rate on sales directly from the studio. I'm now taking bookings for newly commissioned paintings for late autumn/winter 2022, I'll look forward to hearing from you!
