As we embark on a journey through this month's newsletter, I invite you to step into a world where stories unfold, colours dance, and nature's beauty intertwines with the challenges of our changing climate. In this edition, we'll explore the powerful connection between art and environmental awareness, all while sharing an exciting update on our upcoming show, "Fluttering Colours."
"Fluttering Colours" is not just a performance; it's a harmonious blend of creativity and conscience, weaving together the captivating journey of monarch butterflies with the pressing issues posed by climate change. I and my team have passionately crafted this show, drawing inspiration from the delicate ecosystem we live in, where beauty and vulnerability coexist. Picture this: against a backdrop of nature's splendour and breathtaking landscapes, the impact of climate change is brought to life through immersive videos. We witness the dynamic interplay of human migration patterns and the intricate rhythms of the natural world. As I lend my voice and music to the narrative, extraordinary canvases come to life with abstract and representational forms, merging sound, colour, and texture into a captivating synesthetic experience.
In a few weeks, we will dive into intense rehearsals and finalize the show's intricate details. Our excitement is palpable as we work towards the grand stage debut in October. The unveiling of the first show date is just around the corner, set to be revealed at the end of this month. The anticipation is both exhilarating and nerve-wracking, as we eagerly return to the stage and share our artistry with the world once again.
For me, performing is not just a passion; it's a way to connect, share emotions, and spark conversations. I cherish the moments of artistic expression, as they allow me to remain authentic to myself and foster a deeper connection with others. Through "Fluttering Colours," we aim to inspire contemplation on the urgency of climate change, highlighting that we can make a difference, no matter how small our actions may seem.
The theme of our show resonates profoundly in today's world, where climate change effects are becoming increasingly evident. It's quite puzzling to me that despite the current circumstances, much of the world continues to carry on as if nothing has changed. Just like how we fill our buckets with art, beauty, travel, and the wonders of nature to nurture our souls, we must also address the challenges head-on. Yet, the key lies in striking a balance. While we personally need these enriching experiences, it's crucial that we collectively engage in meaningful action at the community level. It's through the combined efforts of caring individuals that we can steer those in positions of authority towards making the necessary, impactful decisions. In essence, we must build a coalition of dedicated individuals who champion change and drive us towards a better future. Readings I’m doing that I recommend: “All Art is Ecological” by Timothy Morton, and “A Little Life” by Hanya Yanagihara.
I travelled across Portugal, to embark on a unique endeavour of leaving my art pieces scattered throughout various cities I explored. The response I received from those who stumbled upon my creations was truly remarkable. Their elation and astonishment were palpable, as they regarded the discovery as a genuine gift (I made some reels about that!) However, a curious circumstance transpired during my stay in Lisbon, specifically coinciding with the JMJ 2023. While I tread carefully, fully aware of the potential for controversy, I must admit my personal thoughts on the matter. It left me pondering how impactful it would be to witness the gathering of thousands of young individuals united not just for religious pursuits, but also passionately advocating for the critical cause of climate change! My intent is not to encroach upon political or religious discourse, and I acknowledge the sensitivity of the topic. Nevertheless, this observation couldn't escape my notice. Let us draw the curtain here, as I recognize my boundaries in discussing matters of politics and religion. My intention is solely to share a fleeting observation that left me pondering the immense potential for collective action on matters that hold profound significance for our world.
That's why I am excited to share that I am on the cusp of becoming a certified facilitator and business advisor at Force of Nature, a platform that empowers positive change all around the world. My purpose is to work with it within the music industry and related sectors! The global increase in apprehensions and concerns related to climate and the environment has become palpable. Similar to other forms of stress, eco-anxiety carries the potential to trigger burnout, avoidance, or disruptions to our daily lives. To confront and appreciate eco-anxiety is a prerequisite to overcoming the pervasive tendencies of denial and disavowal that have contributed to the alarming ecological downturn we find ourselves in. Though the impacts of the climate crisis may not affect everyone equally, the evolving situation brings us all onto the same field. Particularly as circumstances intensify, our capacity to access profound compassion and care becomes increasingly vital. I am grateful to live in a place where daily life remains relatively untouched, but I am acutely aware of the broader challenges we face.
I'm well aware that the subject of climate change can often come across as uninteresting and seemingly inconsequential to some! That's precisely why I believe in approaching this topic through the lens of art, music, captivating shows, and sheer beauty. By infusing these expressive mediums, we're bridging the gap and infusing purpose into the space that might otherwise seem void. Our efforts, and our creativity, become our beacon of impact in the realms where we wield influence.
I invite you to join me on this artistic journey by following my Insta accounts, the performer and the curator one, where I explore these meaningful intersections.
